Welcome

Welcome to our congregation. Join us for worship and Bible class this Sunday!

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), a Christian church body of 2.6 million baptized members. The LCMS, with over 6,000 congregations, has 10 colleges and two seminaries, along with over 2,000 Lutheran elementary and high schools.

With the universal Christian Church, the LCMS teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

The Lutheran Church derives its names from Martin Luther (1483-1546), a monk whose posting of the 95 Theses on October 31, 1517, sparked the Reformation. Luther boldly proclaimed the Bible’s most important message: that Christ came into the world to save sinners, and lived among us to defeat our enemies—sin, death, and the devil. Lutherans believe and teach that Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross washed away the sins of the whole world, and that those who place their trust in Him are forgiven. They are declared righteous and are reconciled to God.

What Luther began in 1517 reached its culmination in 1580, when the official statements of Lutheran belief (the Lutheran Confessions) were gathered together in what is known as the Book of Concord. We place great value in retaining and advancing the cause of the Lutheran Reformation. We see in the Reformation movement the hand of God working to preserve the truth of His Word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are committed to genuine, historical Lutheranism.

For a very brief overview, the teaching of the LCMS can be summarized in three short phrases.

Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace Alone

God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him, and do not deserve His love. He sent His Son, Jesus, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith Alone

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture Alone

The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
